Baby biscuits are so yummy

When I was at Whole Foods the other day, I bought these organic Teething Biscuits for the baby. It's a hard baked oat and barley cookie with molasses for flavor. I bought them because she chews on everything we give her and I think she's trying to cut some teeth soon. Also, instead of chewing on plastic rings, she will get some extra iron and calcium from the biscuits that she is sucking/biting on.

Well, she LOVES these biscuits. Whenever she's having a hard time in the car or in the stroller, I give them to her to calm her down and immediately she begins munching on her biscuit. I only give them to her outside of the home, but today, I used them as a distraction while I cleaned the kitchen. Usually she is entertained for about 15 mins or so when I give her the biscuits, but today, she held on for a good 45 mins while I did the dishes, cleaned the frig, microwave and wiped the hardwood floor. Maybe watching me was entertaining as well. As soon as I was done, I went and got the camera to take a picture of her messy self and managed to get one good shot before she realized that I was no longer working and was available for holding/playing. She threw down her biscuit and proceeded to make her "come pick me up" cry. I got a few pictures of that before I had to put down the camera and console her. Afterwards, we had a nice long bath. -S

Happy 100 days Caylee

Our niece Caylee recently had her 100 day celebration. Tim and I were in charge of taking pictures and we were so occupied with this task that we forgot to take some pictures of Elizabeth and Caylee together. We did get a few with her and the other party guests. Below is one with her Great Aunt and her Great-Grandmother reaching out for her.

Jane and Brandon have two little dogs and Elizabeth is usually very interested in animals, however, she shied away from these doggies that day. Perhaps it was the high pitched barking or the animals running around, she neither cared or were afraid, mostly ignoring them.

We took one full container of applesauce to the party and she usually only eats 1/2 a container per meal, but she ate the whole thing at the party. She didn't let her surroundings bother her and focused on her food. She also recently took a six ounce bottle for the first time. GOOD GIRL! -S

Always a FUN time with Grandpa

Grandma and grandpa were here for the weekend and it's always a fun time when they come over. Below is Elizabeth having a great time riding the laundry basket roller coaster.

Super Mom vs. Me

Today we spent a few hours at the mall with my friend Julie and her three kids. The ages of her kids are 4, 2.5, and 9 months. Even with three kids she did better than Elizabeth and I. All three were well behaved and ate their snacks quietly, while Elizabeth was whining and wanting to be held the whole time we were there. Since last week, she has grown this new attachment to me and wants to be held all the time. I try to put her down and let her cry it out, but I can only stand to hear her cry a few minutes, tops. I realize I am aiding her attachment but what's a mother to do?

I am in the process of researching a new baby carrier. I've been using the Moby Wrap and Tim uses a Chicco front carrier. Both have been great thus far. The Moby can be used all ways, including the front, back, side, nursing positions, sleeping positions, but the back wrap doesn't feel as sturdy so I haven't been using it that way much. If I could put her on my back with another carrier or if she would play in her crib by herself, the house would be a much cleaner place.

Museum of Nature and Science

We went to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science after church on Sunday. It was a nice warm day, not too hot and not too cold. Summer is coming to an end soon and I feel like we spent most of it indoors, sleep deprived. Since Elizabeth is now aware of her surroundings and her awake time is about 10 hours a day, we're trying to fill it with educational or amusing things. So this week's activity was the museum. (We also went to the farmer's market on Saturday, but it got rained out.)

We went through all the exhibits except for the life exhibit. You needed to get another ticket for that and it was sold out, so we'll have to see that one another time. We even watched a short movie in the Planetarium about the origins of the Black Hole. She did well in the theatre even though it was dark. Luckily, it was a documentary, so there were no loud sounds to scare her.

Elizabeth took quite an interest in all the exhibits. She particularly liked the gemstone and animal exhibits. Must get those genes from her Mama. She was probably wondering why the animals weren't moving, like the ones we have at home. The dinosaur exhibit was a really large one filled with many people and I think she spent more time people watching than fossil watching.

Afterwards, we played at the park outside the museum for a bit. The museum is in Denver's City Park, our version of New York's Central Park. Our Denver Zoo is also in the City Park and we hope to visit it soon before the Summer ends. -S

Six months already

Elizabeth celebrated her six month b-day with all her "buddies". Since she is now six months old, there are a few changes to her routine. She now eats food three times a day, still all pureed, and can sit all by herself and entertain herself with toys. Also, she now sleeps in her own crib. Until now, she was sleeping in her pak-n-play in our room. They make play yard mattresses, so it was comfortable for her to sleep in there and be cozy. We also spend more time playing in her own room, so that she can get used to being in there.

Also, she is now vocal. Screaming, laughing, giggling, whining, they are all sounds that we hear all day long. Even from another room, you can tell her mood just by the sounds of her "ahhhhhsss".

Just last week, she starting crawling, but backwards only. They say that for a lot of babies, they start crawling backwards before being forwardly mobile. Looks like we're going to have to start baby proofing the home soon. -S

First time trying ice cream

On our way up to Lake Dillon, we stopped by H-Mart to get some groceries. We also got one of those Korean popsicles that come in the paper tube. I tried giving the baby a taste and see what happened...
Taken in a moving car, please excuse our shaking video.

Labor Day Picnic

Long weekends are great and we definitely had a fun Labor Day weekend. As mentioned earlier, Susie (Sana's best friend) flew out for the weekend, so we spent some time with her. I think Elizabeth had a great time. For Labor Day, Sana and I decided to take the kiddo up to Frisco, CO for a family picnic...all 2.5 of us. Frisco is a small town up in the mountains just off I-70 before you hit Breckenridge ski resort. When we got to the marina area, it was a bit too crowded, so instead we drove to Dillon on the other side of the lake. Dillon is another small town just before Keystone ski resort (probably one of my favorite snowboarding areas). It was actually better that we went to Dillon because the view was much better from where we were sitting than we would've had in Frisco.

It would have been really nice if Elizabeth was older and could walk. The area we were at had a pretty nice play area and there were a lot of kids. I'm sure she would've had a blast. I guess that will be something to look forward to in the future. Anyway, it was pretty sunny out, so this little picnic was a great way for Elizabeth to get some fresh mountain air and some sun. Not too much sun, because we didn't want her to get sun burnt. The higher altitude burns/tans the skin faster, so we tried to be careful. Although, a little color wouldn't hurt. Everyone seems to point out that she is very fair or pale skinned. She gets that from her pops. Elizabeth was keenly watching us cook our sam gyup sal and it almost seemed like she wanted some herself.

On our way down, we stopped in Georgetown to visit Sana's aunt and uncle. They have a Maltese named Milo and when he came out to say hi, Elizabeth started giggling and laughing. We sat her down next to Milo and she grabbed at his hair, so we tried to show her how to pet the dog instead of pulling the fur. Based on this and her trying to interact with Silver and Ruby (our cats), I think Elizabeth is going to love pets just like her mommy.

All in all, it was a fun day and it probably wore Elizabeth out because she slept the rest of the way home and almost went right to bed when we walked through the door. Good times, good times.

Cousin Caylee visits over the weekend

This past Saturday, Elizabeth and Caylee had a fun play date. Since they can see each other clearly now, they look into each other's eyes and giggle at one another. Caylee is good at smiling now as well. Whenever Caylee comes over, Elizabeth has a great time reaching out and touching her. I wonder if they can tell they are related. Elizabeth is always excited to see her cousin and play with her.

Caylee is the daughter of my cousin Jane, which would make her Elizabeth's second cousin. She was born on June 15th, 2009, 103 days after Elizabeth was born. Her actual due date was on June 12th, 2009, which was Elizabeth's baek-il. Elizabeth and Caylee used to play often until Jane went back to work recently and they haven't had a play date in almost a month. When the babies get together, we like to make them pose for funny pictures. Here are a few from last Saturday. We hope they will be good friends when they are older.

Auntie Susie comes to visit

My best friend, Susie, visited over the weekend from California. We spent all day Saturday together and had dinner together on Sunday. Thank you Susie for the cute dress she brought from California for Elizabeth. She's going to be wearing it a lot this Fall/Winter so look for it on our blog! Susie is so great with babies, Elizabeth just clung to her all day.

Six month doctor visit

We went to Elizabeth's six month doctor's visit today. The appointment was at 8:40AM and we were the first one of the day. We made an early appointment so that Tim could go to the appointment and then go into work, even though he would then have to work later too. He really enjoys being a part of all things baby. Even when I was pregnant, he went to all the appointments. When she is older, I will tell her how much her daddy was there for her when she was a baby.

At this appointment, she received three shot vaccines and one oral vaccine. This is actually her third booster set of vaccinations. She received the same series of shots and oral in her two month and four month visits. After the vaccinations, she usually has a small fever, has a hard time sleeping and nursing. This visit was no different, but this time we were ready for the fussiness since we had experienced it twice before.

So here are her stats:
Weight : 15lbs, 8.8 oz, 43%
Height: 26.5 inches, 79%
Head: 17 inches, 80%

Average is considered 50%, so she is definitely taller than other baby girls her age, however, she is low in her weight. The doctor suggests we add some some full fat items to her menu to support her weight gain, such as yogurts, cheeses and meats. Right now she is eating fruits and vegetables along with some grains. Perhaps, she needs to just eat more. Lately though, after eating more solid foods, she is developing a preference towards those over milk. Most of her calories should still be coming from milk, so I hope she doesn't wean too early because I do not want to give her any formula.

One of the side effects of eating solids is constipation. The major baby foods that cause constipation are applesauce, rice cereal, carrots and sweet potatoes. All of which she really likes. The doctor told us that it is very normal to have constipation when starting solids and to try an ounce or more of prune juice. After the visit we bought some juice at the store and tried giving it to her in a bottle. She refused to take it and so I ended up giving it to her in a syringe directly into her mouth. A few hours and three dirty diapers later, she is now back to being regular. Amazing juice!

Getting ready for the shots, three of them. (I couldn't bear to watch them give the shots, so there is no picture of that).

Sleepy Sleepy Baby

For the past week or so, Elizabeth has been taking three long naps a day. Before, she was sleeping about an hour per nap, but now it's up to two hours. I let her sleep until she wakes herself up, but now I'm starting to think that maybe she is sleeping too much. Is this possible? She still sleeps through the night as usual. She may be going through a growth spurt or teething may be making her tired as well. We have a visit to the doctor for her 6 month checkup tomorrow, I will ask the doctor about it then.

Friend's First Birthday

This past Saturday, we went to Elizabeth's friend's birthday. It was A's first birthday and we had a great time at the celebration. It was an indoor/outdoor party, next to a really nice pool in their clubhouse. It was a monkey themed birthday, with great food and friends. We cannot believe a year has gone by since that day we went to the hospital to see A right after she was born. Happy Birthday A!
