Jeju's black boar meat, Udo Island and Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak

We decided our second full day in Jeju would be a scenic one. Our biggest event was going to be Udo Island (in English they call it Cow Island because it apparently looks like a cow lying on its side...I don't see it, but I'll go with it) along with a visit to a 흑돼지 삼겹살 (black boar) restaurant. We had to return the rental car by 8:00 PM that night, so we decided to go eat first.

Before leaving our hotel room though, we got some video of Vincent smiling and showing off his neck muscles. Just prior to this, he had rolled from his stomach onto his back, so we were hoping to get video of him doing that again. He had other plans, of course.

In Jeju City, there is a one-block area that only has 흑돼지 삼겹살 restaurants. We went to the one that looked crowded the night before. The meat was a bit pricier than normal 삼겹살, but it was pretty good with a little hint of gaminess and small amounts of stubble.
To get to Udo Island, we had to take a 15 minute ferry ride. We drove over to Seongsan, where the harbor was and realized that the famous Ilchulbong Peak was there. We took a quick detour to check it out and decided to comeback after the island tour.

At the harbor, we bought our tickets and loaded our car onto the ferry. We found out that the last ferry back was at 5:30 PM, which gave us about two hours on the island. If we didn't make that last one, we would be spending the night. While on the boat, we took some pictures of the view and even tried out the panoramic feature of our camera.

We took the scenic coastal route around the island. There wasn't much except for some beaches and a lot of volcanic rock coming out of the water. One thing we came across was a gentleman giving horse rides for 5000 KRW (or roughly $5). When we asked Elizabeth if she wanted to ride a horse, she became excited. She had ridden one at Everland earlier this summer and surprisingly had a great time. This would be the second time on a horse. Since Elizabeth was too young, the horse owner let Sana ride with her. She seemed to enjoy herself a lot as she rode around the big field. When Sana got off so that she could ride alone for a bit, she got scared and wanted off.

We drove around some more and came to one of the beaches on the island. Elizabeth changed into her swimsuit and we tried to take her into the water, but she didn't even want to walk on the sand. She still is a bit scared of the beach and ocean, which we hope won't last long. There's a lot of fun to be had on a beach.

On the island, one of their crops is peanut. They were selling them all over the place in various forms including ice creams, noodles and sauces, so we bought a small package to try before heading back to the main island.

Like we had planned, we went back to the mountain after getting off the ferry. The mountain had a path leading to the top, but that would've meant carrying both kids up. We decided that was a no-go. Instead, we took some pictures of the mountain and with some of the Jeju stone people.

There was a stand selling Turkish ice cream, so we got a cone for Elizabeth to try. She seemed to like it as her chocolate lips showed.

The day was a really fun day and as we drove back to the hotel, we were glad to have made the trip out to the island. We could now say that we visited Udo Island. Vincent would just have to see the photos as proof that he was there too. -T
